Great laptop for the money..nice sound, large screen, good battery life..wasn’t crazy about the veriface but it was easy to disconnect. I would recommend this laptop..

My first laptop. Its been about 2 months now that i’v been using it in school and it works great. Its pretty fast the battery is higher then average expectancy. Its a very solid design. Good keyboard, good sound. Great product for the value. I recommand. Oh and face verification is a failure.

Bought this laptop a few months ago… did a clean install of Windows Vista Business, as this is a development machine, and had no problems using the driver CD that came with it. VeriFace is pretty nifty, but doesn’t work with both the harsh lighting at the office, and the soft light at home. It’s VERY rugged, the monitor is absolutely fantastic, and the machine itself performs well above what I had expected. The only thing close to a gripe I had is regarding the pre-partioning set up… inexperienced users won’t know to move (and compress) their Documents folder from the itty-bitty system drive to the huge empty one right off the bat. Not so much a problem for me, but three of my coworkers bought a 510Y after seeing mine in action, and I had to show them how to make the move… definitely knocks ”Features” down from a five to a four rating. Best laptop I’ve ever owned, though… Lenovo has definitely converted this long-time Dell devotee.

Sure, there are faster laptops with bigger hard drives, but this one is great value, even if Veriface is not quite ready for prime time. Most impressed by Lenovo’s service, though. A portion of the keyboard went numb in under a month. After one call, Lenovo sent a shipper, paid for shipping both ways, and had a replacement in my hands in under 10 days.

Yes, this is great value and quality for $549. The only thing is the Veriface. I need to adjust my position few times to log on. But to me, it is only for fun. I are using password most of the time. I am happy so far.

Very solid machine. Upgraded to 4GB RAM and runs very smoothly/quickly. Slightly bulkier than anticipated, but great value and quality. Would definitely recommend to others.

Great laptop for the price. The Veriface feature is nice, but I don’t really use it. Bluetooth would also be nice. The default drive partitions can be a little annoying, and you have to call Lenovo to get a Vista disc. Overall - great value, decent product.

I bought mine in December 2007 when they first came out. It has worked flawlessley ever since. Good speed, excellent features. Even Vista worked right. I have been using it for video photography and it works great. Battery life is about 4 hours depending on what setting you have and how bright the screen is. I use it to teach online classes for a number of colleges. It works great. No problems at all. The only warning I have is that the keyboard is sensitive to water. I tripped and spilled water on it and it became a mess. The keys stopped working. I called Lenovo and they sent a box, fixed it, and had it back to me in about 7 days. This is my second Lenovo. My first is the T23, which is still working great. Overall, I would highly reccommend this lapto for it cost versus quality and performance.

Just ignore the reviewer who warns not to buy Lenovo.. I have sold 10-20 of these laptops and believe me I never see anyone back. They are that GOOD and sometimes I feel as though I am the Maytag repair man LOL… Just so you know PC World ranked this laptop as being in the TOP 10 laptops under $1000.00 in May of 2008

This is one of the best notebooks I have owned! Great quality/great value/great performance!! Easy set up, no problems whatsoever. Look out HP!

This was the first time I bought a Lenovo laptop,I had the idea that this was a good laptop because it was made by Lenovo. It turned out to be the opposite it had a defective sound card right out of the box and over all poor quality. Do your self a favor DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP. It’s $549.99 for a reason it’s junk.

Good price and great features IF IT WORKED. If it doesn’t perform what good are the features and quality? If it doesn’t perform its not a value. Very let down. I don’t know if its the Vista or the OS either way it reflects poorly on Lenovo’s configuration, evidently 1.86GHz is a poor match with Vista. This is the biggest P.O.S. laptop I’ve ever owned. I bought 2 (one for myself and and one for my wife) and gave them a chance but I will never buy another Lenovo again. It takes forever to boot up, it constantly freezes up, won’t launch IE for $@%#. Actually I’ll never buy another Windows system again. Vista in any and all forms are a abomination to the computer market. Microsoft should have left well enough alone with XP, if its not broke don’t try and fix it. None of this falls on Tiger Direct, they demonstrated great customer service, prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, and effecient service. I wish I would have bought something with an XP platform.

I actually got the 1.73Ghz Y510 from tigerdirect outlet. I love it and was able to do whatever with it except didn’t try gaming. However I got rid of all the funky partitions and put XP on it since it only had 2GB of RAM. Then when I saw the 2.4 Penryn Mobile processor at the outlet I decided to upgrade the CPU and also increased the RAM to 4GB. When I did this I went back to Vista as this configuration does just fine with it. Too bad can’t upgrade the GPU, but from what I’ve read that’s not possible with integrated graphics on the MB. Would probable have to replace the MB to put a graphics card in this particular Y510 model and then you might as well just buy a new laptop.

Okay, I am not going to lie, there are better laptops in terms of performance out there for lesser price. New? I think not. Most of them are refurbished and if you purchase one of those Gateway refurbished laptop for about $100 less, not only do you get stuck with 3-month warranty, but you miss out on the veriface technology as well as the superb Dolby surround-sound system with a subwoofer. It is fast enough that unless you are a hardcore gamer, it will handle any tasks you throw at it simultaneously. By the way, the design is also better than its Gateway competitor as well. When I went to TigerDirect, I debated for hours, but I eventually stuck with the Lenovo for its features, quality, and price.
